Meet a pioneer of Dutch Horticulture: Harry Wubben
Harry Wubben Flowers is a Dutch company specializing in the production and trade of high-quality cut flowers, focusing on Santini varieties for both domestic and international markets. Renowned for its commitment to innovative cultivation techniques, the company will be one of the first to use our Stratus Unit for on-site CO2 generation.
Skytree's Pioneer Program
The Netherlands is a global pioneer in the horticulture sector. Despite often being held accountable for high CO2 emissions linked to climate change, it remains one of the most advanced and productive agricultural industries in the world. With over 10,000 hectares of greenhouses, the sector supplies a significant portion of Europe’s vegetables, flowers, and plants, and approximately 80% of all high-tech greenhouses worldwide are built using Dutch technologies. Faced with the challenges posed by the ambitious climate goals of the Dutch government, growers in the Netherlands understand the need to innovate and invest in new technologies to become more environmentally friendly and to enhance the sector’s resilience over time.
Skytree’s Pioneer Program highlights growers' openness and willingness to take action, demonstrating the sector’s collective drive for better performance. Harry Wubben is one of the participants in this program and will begin a trial period with our Stratus Unit, specially designed for the horticulture sector, starting in 2024.
Harry Wubben Flowers (Funny Santini) x Skytree's Stratus
Harry Wubben Flowers is a Dutch company specializing in the production and trade of high-quality cut flowers, focusing on Santini varieties for both domestic and international markets. Renowned for its commitment to innovative cultivation techniques, the company supplies florists, wholesalers, and retailers across Europe with fresh, vibrant flowers grown with a focus on quality and freshness.
In recent years, Harry Wubben Flowers has made significant strides toward sustainability. The company has implemented energy-efficient systems in its greenhouses, minimized chemical pesticide use through Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and adopted water-saving technologies. Additionally, it focuses on responsible sourcing, ensuring its products meet high environmental and social standards, support biodiversity, and explore ways to further reduce carbon emissions in its operations. The company also provides in-house transport to ensure the highest quality delivery.
Currently, Harry Wubben relies on Combined Heat and Power (CHP) as one of its energy sources. With dimmable LED lighting, it can supply power back to the public grid during electricity shortages in the Netherlands. However, the company is enthusiastic about embracing new initiatives to further reduce its ecological footprint. For example, it has installed 1,000 solar panels and is testing Direct Air Capture (DAC) machines to enhance its sustainability efforts. In May 2024, Harry Wubben joined the Pioneer Program, and we are excited about this collaboration. We are grateful for their trust in our technologies and look forward to working together toward a more sustainable future.
By continuously improving its practices, Harry Wubben is working toward a greener future, combining efficient flower production with environmental stewardship.

"The horticulture sector is known as a pioneering industry when it comes to responding to developments. We must continue this to secure the sector's future. That’s why I believe it’s vital to explore innovations, advancements, and other opportunities so that we have these technologies ready when they’re truly needed. Testing these technologies in practice is equally important. That’s why I’m thrilled to participate in Skytree’s Pioneer Program, so we can refine these technologies together!"
