Winning big at Greentown Labs in Boston!

Published on
December 11, 2020

On November 19, Skytree took part in a pitch competition alongside 11 Dutch cleantech scaleups driving cutting-edge solutions. In the final pitch competition co-hosted with Greentown Labs, judges Ariel Horowitz, PhD, Ryan Dings, and Mark Shu had a tough choice to make and in the end, Skytree emerged as the winner!

Some other companies who took part included; EXXFIRE, hello energy, IBIS Power, REDstack BV, Semiotic Labs, and TWTG.

Hosted by the Netherlands Innovation Network and Greentown Labs, this competition was the culmination of a 6-week immersive program connecting these scaleups to Massachusetts in support of their goals to expand globally. It was a unique opportunity to connect with award-winning, venture-backed CleanTech innovators around the world. The end prize was a 6-month incubation prize at Greentown Labs.

But what is Greentown Labs? Greentown Labs is the largest climate tech incubator in North America, headquartered in Somerville, Massachusetts - just outside of Boston, and provides 100,000 sq. ft. of lab, office, and community space for about 100 member companies. It is a community that wants to change the way people think about, engage with, and use energy. Change how we build our buildings, how we get around our cities and towns, how we grow our food, how we manage our water. What binds this community is a collective goal: creating a greener, more sustainable world for all.

We were very excited to hear the news here in Amsterdam. This represents a unique opportunity to connect with award-winning, venture-backed cleantech innovators. The whole team at Skytree is delighted to join the community of bold, passionate entrepreneurs, who are creating solutions for today’s biggest climate and environmental challenges.

Our Wins in 2024

2024 has been an exciting year of growth and innovation for Skytree as we continue to push the boundaries of direct air capture (DAC) technology to capture CO₂ directly from ambient air and utilize it in a circular way to create valuable products or permanently store it to reduce atmospheric concentrations. With growing global demand for both removal and utilization, Skytree has focused on innovation, building strategic partnerships, and international expansion to accelerate DAC deployments. This timeline highlights the key milestones we achieved throughout the year, demonstrating our commitment to addressing emissions from hard-to-abate sectors and helping offset historical emissions.

Skytree Acquires Direct Air Capture Startup ReCarbn To Solidify Technological Dominance

Skytree today announced the acquisition of Dutch direct air capture (DAC) startup ReCarbn. The acquisition will integrate ReCarbn’s intellectual property, most notably its innovation in filtration and sorbent circulation, into Skytree’s DAC product portfolio. In addition, all three ReCarbn co-founders — Guus Dubbink (CEO), Ewout Ruijs (CPO), and Sophia Hummelman (CCO) — will join the Skytree team, bringing unique expertise in research and development, product strategy, and commercial finance, respectively.

Skytree technology at the core of the world’s first 100% wind-powered Direct Air Capture Park

Skytree is proud to announce its role as the technology provider for Project Concho, the world’s first Direct Air Capture (DAC) Park powered entirely by wind energy. Located in Tom Green County, Texas, this pioneering project will combine Skytree’s advanced DAC technology with new wind power and onsite geological carbon storage to permanently remove CO₂ from the atmosphere.
